Community Medicine

The Department of Community Medicine at Miri Piri Institute of Medical Science & Research focuses on the science and practice of preventive, promotive, and social aspects of medicine. It trains students to address health at the population level, emphasizing disease prevention, health promotion, and the delivery of healthcare services to communities.

The curriculum combines epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, occupational health, nutrition, maternal & child health, and national health programs, ensuring a broad understanding of public health challenges. Students participate in field visits, health surveys, family studies, and community postings, enabling them to apply classroom knowledge in real-world public health settings.

Through its teaching and outreach activities, the department plays a vital role in creating doctors who are not only skilled in treating individuals but also capable of improving the health of entire populations by applying principles of epidemiology, health education, and healthcare management.
