Microbiology Department – Miri Piri Institute of Medical Science & Research

The Department of Microbiology at Miri Piri Institute of Medical Science & Research is dedicated to the study of microorganisms and their role in health and disease. By training students to understand bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, the department equips future doctors with the skills necessary for accurate diagnosis, infection control, and management of communicable diseases.

Students are exposed to a balance of theory, laboratory work, and clinical applications, ensuring they gain both scientific knowledge and practical competence. The curriculum covers general microbiology, immunology, virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and applied clinical microbiology, forming a strong foundation for careers in clinical medicine, diagnostics, research, and public health.

The department is supported by the Microbiology & Diagnostic Laboratory at Miri Piri Hospital, which provides comprehensive microbiological testing and infection control services. With state-of-the-art equipment and a strong focus on NABL-compliant protocols, the lab plays a crucial role in detecting infections, guiding antibiotic therapy, and supporting patient care in ICU, OT, and wards.
